Welcoming the Winter Solstice (for adults and families)
The Winter Solstice marks the time of the year when the midday sun is at its lowest point in the sky. The Solstices mark key turning points in the year and have been celebrated by many cultures throughout history. The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day (and longest night) of the year, as well as the first day of winter. This year, the solstice occurs on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 12:30 a.m. We will prepare for the solstice and celebrate the season with solstice history and lore, poetry, a solstice story and a walk outdoors to enjoy the setting sun and the beauty of nature. The program will end indoors with a short ceremony to welcome the solstice season followed by warm cider and cookies.
