Five Things to Know Today in Hamilton and Wenham: May 31

Today is Thursday, May 31. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Trash: If Wednesday is your regular trash pickup day in Hamilton, then your trash should be out at the street by the time you are reading this. Trash is delayed by a day all week because there was no pickup . So those who regularly get pickup on Thursday in Hamilton should have their trash out on Friday. It is a meaning any trash should be out in a blue bag, in addition to the recycling and organics collection.

2. Fashion Show: at the is hosting its first fashion show and dinner of the year on Thursday night. The with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and dinner is at 7 p.m. The event is by reservation only, so call the Tea House at 978-468-1398 to see if you can get a last-minute seat. The cost is $45 per person plus taxes, a service fee and the price of beverages.

3. Interesting Town: Do you think either Hamilton or Wenham are one of the most interesting towns in the United States? If so, tell the editors at Reader’s Digest. The magazine is running a contest to find the most interesting town in the U.S. and the deadline to enter is today. The winner will receive $1,000 and the town will be featured on the cover.

4. Comcast E-Mail: If you use Comcast for your e-mail service and you’re a subscriber to the morning newsletter from Hamilton-Wenham Patch, here’s a head’s up – there’s been a problem identified by Comcast and Patch that may be blocking the newsletter from getting to you. Apparently, Comcast is “holding (patch e-mails) in a quarantine or filter that neither (Patch) nor the subscribers have access to,” according to Patch’s tech folks. If this is affecting you, the best workaround at this point is to subscribe using a different address. If you have any questions, contact support@patch.com.

5. Balancing Technology: One of the top questions of the day is about the effect technology is having on our children. is sponsoring a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Janet S. Arndt that “will challenge our way of thinking about technology and its effects on children.” It happens on Thursday at 7 p.m. in room 406 of Jenks Learning Resource Center at Gordon. It is free and open to the public.
