Northern Lights May Appear in Thursday Night Sky

With mostly clear skies early Thursday night, chances are good that if northern lights result from this week's solar flare, we might be able to see the celestial display.

A strong solar flare facing the Earth earlier this week may bring a rare display of aurora borealis, or northern lights, early Thursday night on the North Shore.

Meteorologists said the display could be visible between 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, according to a Facebook post by WCVB-TV. The Northern Lights will look like green waves of light.

"Anyone in the suburbs of Boston, New York City, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia has a chance at seeing this," said meteorologist Mark Paquette  on the Accuweather website.
