A Hamilton Police Department sport utility vehicle was filled with donated toys on Saturday at the department’s “Stuff a Cruiser” event, making it an “enormous success,” police said.
The police toy drive benefited children at the Boston Children’s Hospital who may not be able to make it home for Christmas, said Police Chief Russell Stevens. Officers exchanged Christmas greetings with adults and children who stopped by the public safety building to see Santa and donate a gift.
Santa handed out candy canes as more than 200 toys were collected.
Stevens thanked the toy drive volunteers that helped make it a success, plus Kirby Brand of Brand Company, who is also a Hamilton Fire Department deputy chief and part-time dispatcher at the Hamilton-Wenham Emergency Center, who donated the batteries that are required by many of the donated toys.
Stevens also thanked “all the people who were able to make a contribution to this worthy cause. “
