VIDEO: Prince, Generals Exit Tourney in Friday Night Loss

Hamilton-Wenham senior Jake Prince led all scorers with 23 points, but the Generals lost in the Div. 3 North tournament to Pentucket, 59-54 on Friday night.

Jake Prince had a phenomenal performance Friday, but the Hamilton-Wenham Generals were taken down by Pentucket, 59-54, in the quarterfinal of the MIAA boys basketball North Div. 3 tournament.

Prince led the team with 23 points and carried the Generals back into the game after falling behind early. Once Prince fouled out with a minute remaining, the Generals couldn't close the final gap.

Pentucket junior guard Corey McNamara scored four three-pointers in the first quarter as the Sachems jumped out to a 26-12 lead after one quarter. He would finish the game with six threes and 21 points.

"[McNamara] got us going," Pentucket Head Coach Leo Parent said. "I think we did a nice job on defense slowing down the pace of the game. They're a very explosive team and we knew they'd come back."

The Generals, winners of the Cape Ann League Div. 2 title and the first seed in the tournament, got 11 points from Stephen Tam and eight from Chris Hamilton.

But it was Prince who stole the show, even if he couldn't steal a win for the Generals.

"I love that kid," Generals Head Coach Doug Hoak said about his senior captain. "He just plays with so much passion and so much emotion; I love him. I mean, he's just phenomenal."

The Generals graduate seven seniors this year: Prince, Hamilton, Pat Hendrickson, Colin Kenny, Robbie Curran, Cam Charette and Jim Love.
