Wenham Citizens Police Academy Starts Feb. 19

The Wenham Police Department is pleased to announce the commencement of its first Citizens Police Academy. The academy will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for 10 consecutive Wednesdays beginning on Feb. 19, 2014.
The Citizens Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and functions of the Wenham Police Department and Communications Center. Classes will cover various topics such as criminal law, patrol procedures, evidence collection, domestic violence, motor vehicle enforcement, court procedures and the use of force. Additionally, participants will be allowed to complete a 3-hour police ride-along and tour of the Middleton Jail and the Essex County Regional Communications Center. The ride-along allows each student to observe police officers while on patrol. Courses will be taught by Wenham police officers, police supervisors and Wenham firefighters.
There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants. Applications may be picked up at the Wenham Police Department, 1 Friend Court, Wenham. You may also request an application packet by contacting Sgt. Jonathan Gray or Officer Shane Kavanagh at 978-468-4000. The deadline for application submittal is Feb. 9, 2014. Preference will be given to Wenham residents.
