Meet A Local Museum Director Who Once Studied Mandarin Chinese

Wenham Museum is known all over the North Shore - now meet its director.

Name: Lindsay Diehl

Occupation: Executive Director,

Family: Husband, Rick; children, Sarah, 24, Lucas, 21

Hobbies/interests: Cultural activities (visiting museums!), movies, reading and dining out with friends.

What are you passionate about? Sustaining the Wenham Museum so it remains a vibrant cultural resource for North Shore families. I have loved this museum since I was a little girl. My passion is talking about how important it is to preserve history and to preserve the Wenham Museum, celebrating its 90th birthday in 2012.

Best book: "Shogun" by James Clavell. I have fond memories of sitting and reading it on the porch with a cold lemonade in hand one summer when I was young.

Best movie: Embarrassed to say it’s still "Mary Poppins"

Dream vacation: An African Safari.

How long have you worked in Hamilton-Wenham? I’ve worked in Hamilton-Wenham for 5-1/2 years.

What is your favorite place in Hamilton-Wenham? The Wenham Museum, of course.

What is an a fact about you that most don’t know? I studied Mandarin Chinese.

Do you have an usual or funny story having to do with Hamilton-Wenham? My favorite thing to do in Hamilton-Wenham is to talk with the long-time residents. They know so much fascinating local history, including all the juicy bits.

Where would someone see you around town? At Wenham Museum, the local restaurants and Hamilton-Wenham Rotary meetings.

Which local services and programs do you support? Personally, I support the Wenham Museum, Hamilton Historical Society (which reminds me – my membership is overdue) and the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary. The museum supports — in a variety of forms — the , , and its sister non-profits, in addition to its support for similar organizations around the North Shore.
