BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF MASSACHUSETTS OPENS THEIR EMPLOYEE COMMUNITY GARDEN IN HINGHAM
Blue Cross has opened a 3,500 square foot employee community garden at their offices in Hingham.
BOSTON — June 12, 2015 — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross) has opened a 3,500 square foot employee community garden at their offices in Hingham, which will provide opportunities for their associates to be outdoors, physically active and engaged in learning more about the importance of healthy eating habits. The garden supports the company’s Healthy Living agenda including significant efforts toward sustainability. Employee “plot teams” will care for garden plots throughout the growing season, learn about the benefits of nutritious, local and sustainable food, and then enjoy the organic vegetables, fruit, and flowers at harvest. Additionally, the garden will allow employees to disconnect from their busy work schedules and re-charge their batteries through various gardening activities while building new relationships with co-workers from various business areas.
“Our corporate garden is a partnership between Blue Cross and The Trustees of Reservations, a nonprofit conservation and preservation organization in Massachusetts,” said Jeff Bellows, Hingham resident and Vice President of Corporate Citizenship at Blue Cross. “We know that healthy environments foster improved physical and mental health outcomes and we are pleased to be able to offer new access to green space to our associates.”
The garden is a key element of Blue Cross’s overall commitment to creating a culture of health at the company by nurturing the health and well-being of its employees through food.
