Stephen Lynch, who is running for US Senate offered his views on gun control last week. The Congressman said he agrees with President Obama's reasonable gun control.
Lynch, currently represents the 8th Congressional District, which includes Hingham.
He sent the following statement to Patch:
“I fully support President Obama's reasonable gun control recommendations. This is a very personal issue for me, as my cousin was shot to death in 1996. He was shot nine times, and his daughter had to grow up without a father. Far too many people have shared this fate over the past few years. Too many sons and daughters have grown up without mothers & fathers, and too many parents have had to go on with life mourning the loss of their children.
The only F grade I’ve ever been proud of is the one I receive from the NRA, and I will continue to oppose their efforts to distort a national tragedy and shift the blame elsewhere. In the House I will push for bills like the one proposed by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) that I have cosponsored, which would make substantial improvements to the current background check system and close loopholes that allow certain gun purchasers to avoid background checks altogether. I will carry this commitment with me to the United States Senate.”
