Jamaica Plain Officials to Partake in 'Boston Shines' Cleanup Saturday

Representatives of two Main Streets districts in Jamaica Plain are getting ready to clean up the neighborhood's streets this weekend.

Volunteers are encouraged and invited to join either JP Centre/South Main Streets or Hyde Jackson Square Main Streets on Saturday morning. The cleanup effort is part of the ongoing Boston Shines initiative, a part of which volunteers join together to help clean up various parks and streets in Boston's neighborhoods.

JP Centre/South Main Streets will meet at Curtis Hall in Jamaica Plain between 8:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 to pick up tools for the cleanup, which will run until 1 p.m.

"Our first round of cleaning was such a blast and we really made a difference on the street," Executive Director Andy Zarro said in an announcement. "Now let's keep up that momentum and make JP sparkle."

Trash bags, gloves and tools will be provided, but participants are asked to bring a broom or rake if possible.

For more information or to RSVP to the group for Saturday's cleanup, email info@centresouth.org or JPShinescleanup@gmail.com.

Hyde Jackson Square Main Streets, meanwhile,  will meet at Mozart Park at the corner of Mozart and Centre streets at 9 a.m. on Saturday to help mulch trees along Centre Street.

Those who wish to participate are asked to RSVP by calling 617-522-3694 or by emailing info@hydejacksonsquare.org.
