The Jamaica Pond Association on Monday will discuss updates regarding a new traffic light proposed for the South Street area.
The JPA previously joined the Sumner Hill Association, the Jamaica Plain Business and Professional Association, JP Centre/South Main Streets and the JP Neighborhood Council in writing a letter to the Boston Transportation Department Commissioner requesting a new traffic light be installed at South Street near the Soldier's Monument that would be integrated with the other traffic lights nearby that are currently just pedestrian activated, the JPA said.
The letter also requested cars be able to take a left turn coming out of Eliot Street under traffic light control and avoid having those cars go around the monument. The lights would still have a pedestrian activation. The aim is to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
