Gov. Patrick Breaks Ground on Bridge Project

Gov. Patrick Breaks Ground on Bridge Project

Gov. Deval Patrick breaks ground on the Route 2 bridge project designed to decrease congestion and open up business areas for continued economic growth at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8.

The governor will break ground at 400 Shire Way in Lexington.

MassDOT is replacing the Route 2 east and westbound bridges over I-95. The project will address the bridges’ current structural deficiencies, upgrade capacity, improve safety, protect the environment and reduce annual maintenance costs. The project also includes new paving, guardrails and median upgrades on I-95 in the area.

The contractor is beginning construction, including clearing trees and shrubbery, digging test pits, surveying, and erosion control.  Major construction is expected to begin in late July.
