As per tradition, Patriots' Day will bring thousands of visitors to Lexington from Saturday, April 19 through Patriots’ Day on Monday, April 21 to commemorate the 239th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington. It is, after all, where the British first retreated from the ragtag group of Minute Man militia who would later work to win our freedom from the English crown. 

A full weekend of events is on tap for visitors. Here is the complete schedule:

Saturday, April 19

10 a.m. Parker’s Revenge - Lexington Minutemen gather on the Lexington Battle Green to reenact the second call to arms from Captain Parker with additional dialogue from Reverend Jonas Clarke. After the event, the Minutemen will march to Parker’s Revenge site on Route 2A near the Minuteman National Park Visitors Site for a wreath laying ceremony. Event is free

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Liberty Ride Tours - A trolley tour of the historic Battle Road. Tickets are required and can be purchased at the Lexington Visitors Center, 1875 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington Center.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buckman Tavern Tours - 1 Bedford St. Tours leave every half hour and admission tickets are available at the House.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hancock Clarke House Tours - 36 Hancock St. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Munroe Tavern Tours - 1332 Massachusetts Ave. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.

Noon U.S. Army “Old Guard” Patriotic Performance on the Lexington Battle Green - A historic outdoor performance by the Army's 3d United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Members of the U.S. Army Drill Team, Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and Commander-in-Chief's guard from Fort Myer, VA demonstrate the precision and discipline embodied in Army Soldiers for over 239 years. On the Battle Green at Massachusetts Avenue at Bedford Street. Event is free.

4 p.m. Tower Park Battle Reenactment - Massachusetts Avenue opposite Pelham Road. Event is free.

8 p.m. “In Their Own Words” - Dramatic re-telling of the story of the Battle of Lexington in the words of those who were there. Takes place at Pilgrim Church, 55 Coolidge Ave.  Call 781-862-1703 for tickets.

Sunday, April 20

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Liberty Ride Tours - A unique 90 minute trolley tour of the historic Battle Road. Tickets required. Board at the Lexington Visitors Center, 1875 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington Center.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buckman Tavern Tours - 1 Bedford St. Tours leave every half hour and admission tickets are available at the House.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hancock Clarke House Tours - 36 Hancock St. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Munroe Tavern Tours - 1332 Massachusetts Ave. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.  

8 p.m. Celebration of Colonial Music and Dance - Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square. Cost is $5  

Monday, April 21

5:30 a.m. “The Alarm,” at the Old Belfry - Belfry Hill Massachusetts Avenue at Clarke Street adjacent to the Battle Green “Come ring the bell that sounded the Alarm that the British were coming.” Event is free.

5:30 a.m. Reenactment of the Battle of Lexington on the Battle Green - Massachusetts Avenue at Bedford Street. Free (Rain date: 4/26/14) The reenactment of the Battle of Lexington is commemorated every year on Patriots Day to pay tribute to those who gave their lives on the Lexington Green on April 19, 1775.

6-10 a.m. Several Pancake Breakfasts to Attend - 

  • Boy Scout Troop #160 at St. Brigid Church, 2001 Massachusetts Ave.
  • First Baptist Church of Lexington, 1580 Massachusetts Ave. (across from Police Station)
  • Church of Our Redeemer, 6 Meriam St. (Massachusetts Ave. @ Meriam Street)

6:30-8 a.m. Buckman Tavern Walk Through Tours - 1 Bedford St. Admission tickets available at the House.

7:30 a.m. Sunrise Youth Parade - Parade starts at Munroe Cemetery driveway, proceeding west along Massachusetts Avenue through Lexington center onto the Battle Green. Event is free.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Buckman Tavern Tours - 1 Bedford St. Tours leave every half hour and admission tickets are available at the House.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hancock Clarke House Tours - 36 Hancock St. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Munroe Tavern Tours - 1332 Massachusetts Ave. Tours every hour. Admission tickets available at the House.  

8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.  “First Shot! The day the Revolution Began” Movie Screening & Question/Answer Session with British and Colonial Re-enactors  - Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square. Cost is $3 for adults and $1 per child at the door.  

8:15 am Patriots’ Day Ceremonies on the Battle Green - Massachusetts Avenue at Bedford Street. Event is free.

10 a.m. Lexington Lions Club 100th Annual Five-Mile Road Race - Race starts and ends on Massachusetts Avenue at the Battle Green. For more information call (781) 648-1170 or visit www.lexingtonlions.org

10:15 am Lexington Minute Men Company/DAR Memorial Decoration - On the Battle Green - Massachusetts Avenue at Bedford Street. Event is free.

11 a.m. USS Lexington Memorial Ceremonies - Visitors Center, 1875 Massachusetts Ave., adjacent to the Buckman Tavern. Event is free.  

12:30 p.m. Float Judging - On Massachusetts Avenue in East Lexington. Event is free.

1 p.m. Paul Revere Arrives at the Battle Green on Horseback - He will be greeted by the Board of Selectmen and the Lexington Minute Men Company. Event is free.

2 p.m. Patriots’ Day Afternoon Parade - Parade starts at Massachusetts Avenue and Maple Street in East Lexington, proceeding west along Massachusetts Avenue through Lexington Center, left onto Worthen Road ending at the Town Pool Parking Lot. Event is free.
