Man Faces Heroin Charge After Acting Suspiciously in Bank

A man who was acting suspiciously around a Danvers Square bank on Thursday afternoon was arrested less than two hours later for allegedly possessing heroin.

It started at about 4 p.m. when an alert employee at North Shore Bank on Elm Street saw a man looking in the bank windows. The man also came in to the bank and left without conducting any business, said Danvers Police Sgt. Robert Bettencourt. That prompted a call to police.

The man was gone when police arrived but they asked other departments in the area to be on the lookout for the vehicle he was driving, a Nissan Maxima. At about 5:30 p.m. a State Police trooper spotted the vehicle in Lynnfield and stopped it near the intersection of Saunders Road and Main Street in the center of Lynnfield.

Alexander Harvey, 23, of Lynnfield was arrested and charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin, and having no inspection sticker.

Bettencourt said Danvers police detectives also spoke with Harvey but he does not face any charges in Danvers.

Harvey was released on his own recognizance after the arrest and is scheduled to be arraigned in Peabody District Court on Friday.
