Marshall G. Soderblom - 97, of Malden, former resident of Lynnfield for fifty three years, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene E. (Simon) Soderblom.
Born in Malden, MA on February 4, 1916. He was the son of the late Axel and Anna (Hokanson) Soderblom. He was a graduate of Malden Public Schools and Apprentice School at the Boston Naval Shipyard. Marshall served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1937 to 1940.
He worked as a pipefitter at the Boston Naval shipyard for thirty five years.
Marshall was a member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading and the North Reading Lodge A.F. & A.M. He was a charter member of the William Pitt Tavern Lodge No. 1789 in Portsmouth, NH; Charter Oak Lodge No. 58 in Effingham, NH, where he served as Worshipful Master; Anniversary Lodge No. 175, A.F. & A.M. in Portsmouth, NH; Washington Chapter R.A.M. in Salem, MA; Scottish Rite Bodies of NH, 32nd Degree; Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington; Past Masters Association of Mount Morah; 3 Crown Lodge No. 91, Vasa Order of America and a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Wakefield.
Family members include his nephews, John Soderblom and his wife Julie of Wakefield and Brian O’Hair and his wife Karen of Tampa, FL; a cousin, Joseph Hokanson and his late wife Natalie of Wells, ME. He was the brother of the late Stanley and Dorothy Soderblom and Ingrid O’Hair. He is also survived by several cousins in Sweden and Denmark.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 10 AM at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
