Eighth grade project on domestic violence stole the show.

Linden Students Win Civics Day Grand Prize

On December 11, 2011, 8th grade students from the attended Generation Citizen’s annual Civics Day in the Great Hall of Flags at the Massachusetts State House.

The students’ projects on promoting school spirit, self-image, drug resistance, and raising awareness ondomestic violence were judged by state level politicians. Senators Katherine Clark and Kenneth J. Donnelly, and Representative Gloria L. Fox analyzed the projects with individual students and groups.

All of the students were honored at the ceremony, and one group of Linden students won the grand prize with their project on domestic violence. Linden students Sarah Bendell, Thais Costa, Jenna Merchant, Walid Moussaid, and Nikkita Solar were on hand to accept the award on behalfof their class and were named “Outstanding Change Makers.”

This award acknowledges students whoare engaged, educated, and empowered to improve their community.

“I am so proud of our students," eighth grade teacher and project coordinator Ms. Trombley said. "The hard work, energy, and passion that the students put into the projects really paid off. They are really trying to make theircommunity a better place through civic duty and action.”
