Manhole Explosions in Malden Disrupted Traffic, Power, Nearby Residents [Video]
National Grid said power would be fully restored to the area by Monday morning.
At least two manholes exploded and caught fire in the area of Main Street because of an underground electrical fire, shutting down traffic and evacuating nearby business and residents early Sunday afternoon.
Police told Patch there were at least two manhole fires, and some reports say at least two more exploded. National Grid was working to restore power in the area of Main and Florence Streets. The power company said all power would restored by Monday morning.
Power was knocked out to the traffic lights at the busy intersection at Florence and Main and the one at Main and Salem and Ferry Streets; Through traffic reopened before power was restored to the lights.
