Malden’s Population Continues to Rise

Malden’s population increased by 2 percent between 2010 and 2013, according to new U.S. Census data released this week.

Malden had 59,554 residents in 2010 and that number rose 955 to 60,509 in 2013.

The 2 percent figure for Malden is higher than the 1 percent median growth rate among Massachusetts communities that was reported by the Boston Business Journal but well below the 10 percent population increase in Cohasset, which saw the most growth in the state.

Communities near Malden also saw an influx of residents: Revere 4 percent increase, Saugus 4 percent, Everett 3 percent, Medford 2 percent and Melrose 2 percent.
