25,000-Square-Foot Parcel Donated to Marblehead

Every week, we set out to answer a question submitted by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column.

On Friday, we received an email from a local resident who wanted us to nail down exactly where a recently-donated stretch of land was located off of May Street.

They asked: I heard the Selectmen accepted a big chunk of land off of May Street Wednesday night but I can't picture in my mind exactly where that is? Do you know what the plan is for the parcel? Thanks!

At their meeting at Abbot Hall Wednesday night, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to accept the recent donation of a 25,000-square-foot swath of land located off of May Street.

As a result of the board's vote, the land will now be "held in the care, custody and control of the Conservation Commission."

The land is located on the Northeast side of May Street and is situated partly on lots 18, 20, and 22 along the roadway. It includes a small pond surrounded by dense brush.

The town's newly-acquired land is reportedly owned by the Baker Circle Development Corp.

"That's a big chunk of land," board member Harry C. Christensen Jr. said after the vote. "25,000-square-feet, that's a lot."

Following their decision, board members unanimously voted to send thank you letters to the former owners of the land as a token of their appreciation for the donation.
