Writing an Effective College Essay

Rising high school seniors can get a head start on the college application process by preparing a great college essay this summer in this four-session class. Students will learn what makes a college essay a winner by examining successful essays, brainstorming for unique ideas, and completing impressive personal narratives.

The class is open to students from any area high schools and will be held at Pingree School in South Hamilton on Tuesdays, from July 8-29 from 6-7:45 p.m. Maximum class size is 10. If the class fills up, a Thursday class will be added. Tuition is $375.

Instructors are Karen Madorsky and Judith Klein. Madorsky, a private tutor, has taught English to middle and high school students for over 30 years. She has worked for several years privately with students, helping them prepare their college essays, and has served as a consultant for the past two years at Kipp Academy, Lynn, helping their students prepare college essays. Klein is Director of Communications and Community Programs at Pingree. She has worked privately with many students on their college essays over the past 15 years. Earlier in her career, she worked as a guidance counselor and school psychologist.
