A Winter Storm Warning will take effect at 4 a.m. Thursday and continue through Friday morning.

UPDATED: Winter Storm Warning in Effect for 30-Hour Snow Storm
UPDATED: The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snowfall, for a broad region including Marlborough, taking effect through 10 a.m. Friday.

Heavy snow, dangerously low wind chills and "considerable blowing and drifting snow" are expected during this time span.  The National Weather Service forecasts a  snow fall of 8 to 14 inches for Marlborough, according to the warning.

Due to the storm, Marlborough Public Schools are closed Thursday. A decision on Friday had not been made as of Thursday morning.

Snow was expected to form after midnight Wednesday, and will continue through Thursday, with an expected lull in the afternoon Thursday, particularly south of the Mass Pike.

The snow then will resume Thursday night into Friday, intensifying to 1 to 2 inches per hour. At these times, the snow will result in poor visibility and travel "may become impossible."

Winds will be from the Northeast, at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.
