Cape Cod Boat Fire: 2 Fishermen Saved By Coast Guard

A fire broke out aboard the fishing boat Jupiter in Nantucket Sound May 11, 2017. The Coast Guard rescued two people aboard.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Two fishermen were rescued in Nantucket Sound Thursday morning after a fire broke out aboard their boat. The crew of the Coast Guard cutter Oak picked up the duo, who were aboard the vessel Jupiter. The rescue happened a few miles south of Cape Cod.

The fishermen called for help at about 8:50 a.m. and the crew of the Coast Guard cutter Oak received the transmission, Coast Guard officials said.

"Within five minutes, the Oak's small boat crew launched and arrived on-scene with fire extinguishers to help the fishermen put out the fire," Coast Guard Lieutenant Stephen Nolan said in a statement.
