Dale Street School Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Birthday!

Thursday, March 2nd was a day to celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday and the Read Across America Program. It was a day celebrated across this nation, but I was thrilled to have been asked to be one of the "Community Readers" at the Dale Street School, here in Medfield.

Dale Street School Librarian and Media Specialist, Kerry Cowell, along with Library Assistant, Susan Read did an amazing job of organizing the readers and the classes in which they would read. They also set up a beautiful display of Dr. Seuss books in the front lobby from which the readers could choose. I chose to read the Dr. Seuss book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday is also known as Read Across America Day, and it is a way to encourage everyone to read. Many students and teachers dressed up as a character in one of Dr. Seuss' books. It was fun to see many "Thing 1's and Thing 2's" roaming the halls of Dale Street School.

Dale Street School encouraged adults and students to spend some time enjoying independent reading and each class created a paper HAT (Cat in the Hat style) to be displayed on the walls in the library; check out a photo of that wall in the Photo Gallery of Images.
