Darvina A. "Del" Carson, 98, Born in Medfield in 1913

Carson made her famous homemade spaghetti sauce until her last days. Her parents opened the first Italian restaurant in Peoria, IL. She was one month shy of her 99th birthday.

Darvina A. “Del” Carlson, 98, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at her residence.

Darvina was born on Nov. 12, 1913 in Medfield  to Thomas “Dominic” and Virginia (Voccola) Dentino. She married Forrest Armour Carlson on August 12, 1950 in Princeton, IL. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1995.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Darvina is survived by one daughter, Lynne VanDeVeer of Peoria, IL; one grandson, Brad (Julie) VanDeVeer of Washington, IL; one granddaughter, Romy VanDeVeer; and two great-grandsons, Tanner and Jayce.

Prior to marriage, Darvina worked at Princess Peggy as a seamstress. Upon getting married, she enjoyed the rest of her life as a homemaker. Her parents had the first Italian restaurant in Peoria where she learned to cook from her mother and up until her last days cooked her homemade spaghetti sauce for her family.

Darvina stated that she lived a full and happy life. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

She was of the Catholic faith. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial service will be on Oct. 23, 2012 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Her final resting place will be at American Mausoleum with a private service.
