The 7th annual Angel Run was held on Sunday.

This year's Angel Run attracted 1,043 participants.

One of those participants was Austin Scola who won the 5k with a time of 19:02 minutes.

Scola, 16, has run the race for five years but this is the first time he won.

"I wasn't expecting to win," said the Medfield High School sophomore.

Both Scola and second place winner John Benner of Needham said they liked the many carolers who lined the 3.2 mile course.

Benner, 15, was just seconds behind Scola; this was his second year at the Angel Run.

The popular family-friendly fun event took off from the Wheelock School on Sunday.

The 3.2-mile fun run/walk featured jingle bells for sneakers, racecourse decorations, festive attire and entertainment, and was followed by a post-run celebration at the Wheelock School.

The Medfield Foundation Angel Run is a fun-raiser designed to bring members of the extended Medfield community together in a spirit of joy and celebration. It is the unofficial start of the Christmas festivities in Medfield and the proceeds from which will benefit under-served families in Medfield.

To date, the MFi has given back more than $1 million in fundraising money.
