Town officials say plans are now in full swing to open a Starbucks in downtown Medfield by the fall.

"I believe they closed as of this morning," said Assistant Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler at Thursday's meeting of the Downtown Study Committee.

"They're still on target with Starbucks," said committee Chairman Brandie Morris. "They have a 10 to 12 week construction schedule...Their goal is to be opened by September."

Morris said she and Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr. met with the developer Greg Salvatore earlier on Thursday to discuss the project.

The developer has a hearing with the planning board on Feb. 25 and hopes for approval of the project by early March.

Salvatore has hired a traffic consultant who will review the traffic patterns and will make changes to the entrance and egress of the former Mobil site at the busy intersection of Main and North Streets.

"It will end up probably being the same as they have at the [Needham] Bank...so it doesn't tie up traffic," said Morris, where the bank has restricted turns onto Main Street.

The town will also be analyzing and resynchronizing the Main Street traffic lights at Pleasant Street, North Street, and Route 27 to help ease traffic flow.
