Some poll workers were reporting high turnouts Tuesday afternoon, attributing it to warm weather and contested races.
As of 1:30 p.m., 200 voters had cast ballots at Ward 1 Precinct 1 at Andrews Middle School. There were 490 ballots cast in 2009, and warden Laura Hankard said she thought the pace this year was higher.
"I think it's going way over that (490 voters)," Hankard said. "It's the mayor's race, that's the biggest thing. Plus, it's beautiful out."
A total of 384 ballots had been cast at the Senior Center as of 1:15 p.m. Warden Arthur Rogers said the pace projected about 700 votes by days end, higher than most years.
At Ward 1 Precinct 2, 201 people had cast ballots by 120, a similar pace to previous elections, Warden Al Fondacaro said.
