Seven students this month will represent Milford High School at the Central District Massachusetts Music Educators Association annual concert in Worcester.

5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 8

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Seven students at Milford High School have been selected in vocal and instrumental categories for the prestigious Central District Massachusetts Music Educators Association Annual Concert. The concert will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 19 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. The students are Eric Miller (voice), Diana Gonzalez (cello), James Mullahoo (saxophone), Rob Cote (voice), Peter Bae (cello), Bryan Hildebrand (saxophone) and Taylor White (violin).

2. and will take up the issue of zoning restrictions for medical marijuana dispensaries, as well as a public hearing for a proposed assisted living facility in downtown Milford.

3. Milford received 26 applications for a single open position of janitor. Five were interviewed. The full-time job went to Lester Simmons, who will be paid $16.89 an hour. He will be assigned to the Milford police station and starts Feb. 4.

4. Milford will survey its boards and committees, including the Planning Board and Finance Committee, about whether a remote participation option should be considered for elected or appointed members who may have to miss a meeting due to illness or travel.

5. Newly elected U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III has two district offices, in Newton and Attleboro. He will hold an open house at both on Saturday to give consituents a chance to meet him and his staff. The open houses are scheduled at 11 a.m. in Newton, at 29 Crafts St., Suite 375, and at 1 p.m. in Attleboro, at 8 N. Main St., Suite 200.
