UPDATED: The driver of a Mitsubishi which caught fire Tuesday outside Kohl's Department Store had just started the engine when the car started smoking.
The cause of the blaze, which also melted paint and parts on a nearby car, is undetermined, said Lt. Frank Ferrante of the Milford Fire Department.
The Mitsubishi owner had just had some work done on the car at a garage recently, Ferrante said, referring to the installation of a remote starter. But the cause of the fire Tuesday could not be pinpointed.
No one was injured. The other damaged vehicle, a Subaru sedan, had exterior damage due to radiant heat but can be repaired, Ferrante said.
A blaze in a Mitsubishi sedan spread to an adjoining vehicle Tuesday, in the parking lot outside Kohl's.
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 4:30 p.m. No injuries resulted.
The fire caused traffic to back up on Medway Road, and resulted in dozens of cars turning into the lot to see what was going on.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
