Police Log: Suspicious Envelope, Gang Signs

In the latest edition of the police log, officers assisted in a multi-agency investigation of a suspicious envelope found at the state Department of Corrections building, and were dispatched to homes for disturbances. And a driver on Cedar Street called police after she watched a fellow motorist run over two street signs, then keep going, dragging the signs along.

Thursday, April 14

1:00 p.m.: A caller from Fountain Street asked to speak to an officer regarding past threats.

2:04 p.m.: A two-car accident was reported on Fountain Street, in front of

2:35 p.m.: A suspicious package was found at the on Maple Street. Various agencies responded, concerned the envelope possibly contained anthrax. A hazardous materials crew also responded to conduct testing.

3:16 p.m.: A vehicle possibly engaged in illegal dumping was observed on Asylum Street.

4:31 p.m.:  A caller from Spring Street reported neighbors, across the street, were playing loud music for more than two hours.

5:05 p.m.: Someone from the reported a male party was acting strangely “being random, asking weird questions.” Police escorted the person off the property.

5:18 p.m.: A person from wanted to speak with an officer about a bad check that was received.

6:01 p.m.: A woman on East Street complained that kids keep cutting through her yard.

6:19 p.m.: A person on Water Street reported their neighbor was causing a problem.

8:22 p.m.: A person reported an erratic driver on Cedar Street. She watched as he ran over two street signs, “and then kept driving with the signs under the car.”

8:26 p.m.: A woman walked into police headquarters to report a theft.

9:29 p.m.: An anonymous caller reported the driver of an Infinity SUV appeared to be passed out at the wheel. The driver, who was seen at Granite and Pearl streets, was gone when police arrived.

11:07 p.m.: Police received a noise complaint about a van with a running compressor inside, outside. Police spoke with the van operator. 

Friday, April 15

3:18 a.m.: A woman on Colonial Road called to report her daughter’s boyfriend was “drunk and creating a disturbance.” Police gave the boyfriend a courtesy ride to another address.

3:55 a.m.: A man called to report his car, a Nissan, had struck a deer. Police determined the incident happened in another town.

8:52 a.m.: A person walked into the police station to request a wellbeing check on a 2-year-old child. Police did so, but found the boy had nothing wrong with him.

9:43 a.m.: Police responded to after facility staff requested help with an out of control patient.

10:12 a.m.: An officer observed, then spoke with, a male party who “flashed known gang signs” at him at Grant and Walnut streets, as he drove by in the cruiser.
