Police Log: Howling, Yelping Dogs, Arrests

Thursday, Sept. 20

4:55 p.m.: A two-car crash was reported on School Street. One person was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

6:55 p.m.: North Smithfield Police asked for a well-being check on a woman, reported to be driving a Toyota Corolla to Milford Regional Medical Center, who had a knife and had threatened to harm herself. Police could not locate the vehicle or driver.

7:20 p.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Purchase Street at Sabatinelli Road, police were going to seek a court summons to charge Marius Tardie, 24, of 42 Railroad St., Apt. 84S, North Smithfield, RI, with operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration and having an uninsured vehicle.

7:46 p.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Central at Depot streets, police were seeking a summons to charge Romeu Lopes, 36, of 72 Hayward St., Apt. 2, Milford, with having a motor vehicle lights violation and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

8:31 p.m.: An 8-year-old girl called police to report her family on Franklin Street had no water and couldn't find their rent money. Several officers responded, and determined this was a dispute between a landlord and tenant.

8:44 p.m.: A caller reported a domestic incident was happening on West Spruce Street between a boyfriend and girlfriend. An officer determine no disturbance had occurred.

9:08 p.m.: A caller on Bowdoin Drive said people had just come to his door, saying they were taking "poll information." They did not give any company name.

9:24 p.m.: A caller asked police to come to a Pearl Street home, where a dog "has been making howling and barking noises" for an extended period of time. She was worried the dog or the owner was hurt. Police checked and no one answered the door. No barking dog was heard.

10:22 p.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Purchase Street, police arrested Jose L. Sanchez-Ramos, 58, of 3 Overlea Ave., Milford, on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

10:33 p.m.: Police received a call from a woman on South Free Street, saying she could hear a man yelling at his dog "and the dog is yelping." She said she heard the same thing the previous night. She asked for a well-being check on the animal. Police checked and reported the dog was OK.

11:19 p.m.: A caller reported hearing people yelling in the area of Pine Street.

Friday, Sept. 21

8:27 a.m.: State Police transferred a call about a minor hit-and-run on Cedar Street. Police could not locate the vehicle.

1:01 p.m.: Police and firefighters responded to where an 8-year-old girl was having difficulty breathing. She was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.
