As anyone who has watched
Milford Performs - A Performing Arts Showcase
knows, I use my role as host to meet with our guests and ask them about many different aspects of their performing art - how they learned to do it, why they do it, who influenced them the most in choosing their pursuit, etcetera
. I also shamelessly (but I hope not obnoxiously) shill for their studios, their coming performances, their latest projects (go see Rachel MacKenzie in
next month in Woonsocket!), etcetera
. Most artists concentrate very hard on their craft - acting, singing, playing an instrument, dancing - and really want to share the fruits of their labor. These same artists may find it more difficult to talk about themselves than to perform before a thousand people! Some are shy, most are afraid to sound like they are bragging, and nearly all would rather do it than talk about it.
This is where Milford Performs
comes in, not only to provide a place to perform but also to let the artists share the what/where/how/when of future performances. I have found that I am much better suited to be a producer than a performer myself, and feel a strong sense of duty to support those performing artists who come on our show. I learn new ways to promote our performers every week. More people can find out about our performers, so our performers can spend more time perfecting and teaching their crafts and less time trying to get the word out about the latest projects. A win/win for all!
