Vehicles Rifled Across Milford

A thief or thieves helped themselves to loose change, GPS and other items left in cars that were unlocked in Milford this week.

Vehicles Rifled Across Milford

Thieves look for quick hits, "crimes of opportunity," and several dozen cars left unlocked in several parts of Milford were targeted this week.

Milford Police received reports for the break-ins beginning Monday morning and continuing into Wednesday afternoon.

In most of the cases, the cars were left unlocked, and the person or persons rummaged through the vehicle, taking loose change or other valuables, said Lt. James Falvey of the Milford Police Department, who oversees patrol officers.

The reports came in from all parts of town, he said, including West Walnut Street, Kellett Drive and Purchase Street.

Police have made no arrest. The property crime is categorized as a larceny, or theft, from a motor vehicle.

Police advise residents to lock all doors on vehicles, park it in a well-lit location if possible, and remove all valuables, particularly GPS units mounted on windshields.

"It's a crime of opportunity," Falvey said.
