The Milton Police Department recently released a Facebook statement warning residents about a phone scam that has become common in the Boston area.

On Saturday, a Milton resident was called by a male with a heavy foreign accent inquiring about a loan payment. According to the statement, the caller said he was investigating the non-payment of a loan.

The call came from 904-701-9569.The phone number is associated with a fake company that phones people about defaulting on a loan. The Milton Police have reported this group.

"If this person calls you, hang up immediately, this is a scam," reads the MPD statement.
