Tufts Health Plan Foundation Gives to Cooperative Elder Services

Cooperative Elder Services, Inc. (CESI) recently received a $17,804 grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.  CESI will use the generous grant to provide a new Fitness for Life Therapeutic Exercise Program at their five Adult Day Health centers located throughout greater Boston.  Chair yoga, Tai Chi and other exercises will be offered to enhance flexibility and balance, and promote relaxation and quality of life for low-income elders.

A non-profit Adult Day Health organization serving elders since 1979, CESI operates centers in Concord, Groton, Burlington, Arlington and Milton.  CESI provides a welcoming day-time environment for local seniors, with nursing care, nutrition, socialization with peers, therapeutic activities, social services, caregiver support and round-trip transportation offered throughout the week.  The mission of CESI is to delay or prevent nursing home placement by promoting health and independence, so that vulnerable elders can age in place.  For more information, visit www.elderdayservices.com

About Tufts Health Plan Foundation

Tufts Health Plan launched the Tufts Health Plan Foundation in 2008 with the mission to promote healthy lifestyles and the delivery of quality care in our communities. With a focus on healthy aging, the foundation has given approximately $13 million to Massachusetts and Rhode Island nonprofits that elevate the physical, mental and emotional well-being of older adults and their caregivers. Through grants in three areas – health & wellness, purposeful engagement and empowerment – the foundation seeks to fund programs that will help adults age 60 or older improve and maintain their health, manage their chronic diseases, prevent falls, engage in their communities, find encore careers and volunteer opportunities, and access programs and services.
