A two and a half foot black bear, made entirely of wood, once proudly grazed the front stoop of the Park residence on Shirley Road until is was taken last weekend. Now the family is hoping to retrieve the "sentimental" item and is offering a reward for its safe return.
Around midnight on June 20, a group of four to five teenagers reportedly stole the bear from the home, according to a report that Yoon Park's neighbor offered.
"An elderly neighbor across the street saw it happen, but did not call us or the police…not sure why," Park said.
The neighbor reported seeing the teens flee on foot, leading Park to believe that they live in the vicinity of her house. A police report was filed on June 21.
Park related that she and her family have only lived on Shirley Rd. since May and that her five-year-old son is "devastated that someone took 'Little Bear' from him."
"Little Bear" has a brown nose and base, and weighs approximately 50 to 70 pounds. The Park family is offering a $250 reward to anyone who can help return it in its original condition. Parties with information should contact 978-549-5122.
"There is no intrinsic value to this bear," said Park, "only sentimental value as my son picked it out when he was two years old at the Bolton Fair."
