Needham Woman Watches Engagement Ring Fall into Ocean Before Proposal

Matt Cawley was proposing to his girlfriend, Stacey Scanlon, when he accidentally dropped the diamond ring he was carrying.

A $9,000 engagement ring has been lost at sea after an engagement attempt involving a Needham woman, reports the Cape Cod Times.

Matt Cawley of Dedham had taken to Bass River Beach in S. Yarmouth to propose to his girlfriend, 31-year-old Stacey Scanlon of Needham, when the diamond engagement ring he was holding slipped from his hand and dropped through the cracks of the jetty beneath the couples' feet.

"Before I could even ask, 'Will you marry me?' The ring fell in between these cracks," Cawley told the Cape Cod newspaper.
