Police Reports: Resident Sends Money to Florida in Jackpot Scam

Police received a call from a Bank of America employee on Friday, Aug. 24 reporting that one of their customers had been the victim of a scam.

The Needham resident had been told that he had won a large jackpot and then sent money to cover the insurance to Florida.

Postal police were able to recover the money before it was delivered.

Other incidents noted in the Aug. 28 reports:

People Seen Sleeping in Car
Police were called to a Rosemary Street address on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 7:34 a.m. for the report of two people sleeping in a vehicle. Police spoke with the two occupants and determined that they were relatives of an individual at that address. They were sent on their way.

Vehicle Left Scene of Crash
Police were called to the report of vehicle crash on Chestnut Street on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 9 a.m. A vehicle described as a red Chevy, which had left the scene, had struck a tractor trailer. The truck was not damaged.

Cell Phone Stolen From Vehicle
Police were called to the on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10:18 a.m. for the report of past larceny of a cell phone. The victim told police that the cell phone had been taken sometime the day before out of her vehicle. The matter is under investigation.

Child Struck By Vehicle
A child was struck by a vehicle on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of West Street and Hillside Avenue. The child was treated and transported to for further evaluation. Police are investigating.

Money Taken From Purses at Library
Police were called to the on Friday, Aug. 24 at 12:41 p.m. for the report of past larceny. The victims told police that an unknown amount of cash had been stolen from their purses that morning. The matter is under investigation. 

Hit and Run and Wexford Street
An individual came to the police station on Friday, Aug. 24 at 3:10 p.m. to report that another vehicle had struck his vehicle while it was on Wexford Street. The other vehicle was described as a silver Volvo.

Man Caught Speeding Had Expired License
A Dover man was cited for multiple vehicle violations on Friday, Aug. 24 after he was allegedly caught speeding on Central Avenue.

Police on patrol at 4:56 p.m. observed the vehicle speeding on Central Avenue near Fisher Street and stopped the vehicle.

The officer found that the driver, a 45-year-old Dover man, had an expired license and registration. He was cited for those violations as well as for speeding, and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Driveway Reflectors Stuck in Resident’s Lawn
A Melrose Avenue resident called police on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 12:32 a.m. to report vandalism. The resident said he saw two white males, possibly teenagers, leave his property in a white pickup truck after sticking driveway reflectors into his lawn. No other damage was noted.
