Sinkhole Snarls Traffic on I-95 North in Needham

A sinkhole in middle of the road closed three lanes of traffic for much of the day.

All lanes along I-95 north have been reopened for travel after a sinkhole forced a three-lane closure for much of the morning and afternoon Monday.

Massachusetts State Police say crews worked diligently to repair the large divot that formed in the middle of roadway near exit 19 in Needham.

Travel on the highway was reduced to just a single lane as repairs took place.

Officials are urging motorists to seek alternate routes for the evening commute as gridlock traffic has built up throughout the course of the day.

Delays of over 90 minutes have been reported in the area. Traffic was backed up for 10 miles to the south at one point.
