Where Are There Potholes in Needham?

Where Are There Potholes in Needham?

Due to the freeze-thaw cycles and rain, Needham has seen an influx of potholes.

“Fortunately, the majority appear to be of the shallow ‘de-lamination’ type; this where a layer of asphalt has peeled away but not entirely through to the soil beneath,” said Richard P. Merson, director of Needham Department of Public Works. “This type of pothole tends to be less damaging.”

The locations of the deeper, more damaging potholes are being marked with orange cones or barrels until they can be addressed. The patches are done with hot asphalt directly from plants within the region. However, these plants are only open one or two days a week, depending on the weather. The plants were not open at all recently until late last week. The Highway Division was able to do some work Friday.

“Highway Division crews will respond to investigate new reports and mark for safety,” Merson said. “Reports can be logged with the Police Department, who will contact DPW staff to investigate.”

Potholes can also be reported via the SeeClickFix website and app.

According to SeeClickFix, there have been about 35 reports of potholes in town since the start of December. Of those, about 13 have been fixed.
