Plow Driver Arrested After Striking Officer, Evading Police

Newton Police needed to play a game of box in the snowplow driver on Thursday.

A Medfield man was ultimately arrested after he reportedly pushed snow from private property onto a public way, struck an officer and refused to stop plowing until police boxed him in. Police arrested Edward Negoshian, 58, 12 Haven Road, Medfield, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Newton Police received a call on Thursday, Feb. 13 about a plow driver moving snow from private property onto public property on Shawmut Park. The caller said the driver pushed snow from a parking lot on Ossipee Road onto the corner of Ossipee Road and Shawmut Park, according to police.

An officer went to the driver of the snowplow, Negoshian, who was still plowing the area. The officer asked the man if he pushed snow onto city property. The driver said he did not. When police informed Negoshian that there was a witness and that he could be cited, the plow driver reportedly rolled up his window.

The officer asked for a license and registration, but Negoshian backed up the truck. The vehicle’s side mirror hit the officer’s left arm. The officer told the driver that he had just been hit, but Negoshian accelerated forward despite the officer telling him to stop, according to police.

The officer motioned for the man to stop, but he continued to plow the area. The officer requested backup and additional officers tried to get the man to stop plowing, police said.

Police tried to box the man in, but the driver kept getting away from them and nearly crashing into cruisers in the process, according to police.

Officers ultimately pinned the vehicle, but it took multiple requests by police before Negoshian exited the vehicle. Police arrested him for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
