According to the Newton Fire Department Twitter feed, the main body of the fire was knocked down around 3 p.m. Crews are now conducting extensive overhaul at the scene.

A Newton police officer at the scene of the three-alarm fire on Charlesbank Road tells Patch everyone got safely out of the flaming house; there had been two people at home when the fire broke out. Flames are still coming through the roof.

Patch editor Charlie Breitrose is now on-scene at the fire, and says traffic from the Mass Pike toward Nonantum Road is being detoured. Take a different route.

Newton firefighters are responding to a three-alarm fire at 25 Charlesbank Road this afternoon.

According to scanner reports, responders reported fire showing on arrival at the residence, which is near the Mass. Pike. 

As of 2:03 p.m., companies were conducting a primary search of the residence. Scanner reports indicate there may be residents still inside. 

A second alarm for the fire was transmitted at 2:08 p.m. and a third alarm at 2:20 p.m., according to scanner reports, with a fire in the attic extending into the residence.

Charlesbank Road is currently being blocked off at St. James St., according to an alert from Newton Police.
