Local team captains Sabrina Ferro and Kerryn O’Connel of Northborough and Heather Hodgkins of Southborough lead their all girls youth hockey team to the State Championships with the help of their goalie Lana Pacific, also from Northborough.
The Lady Flames finished their regular season in first place of their division of the New England Girls Hockey League with a record of 22-4-4, and went on to the state tournament where they faced the New England Jr Falcons (3-1 win), the Charles River Blazers (1-0 loss), and the MA Spitfires (5-1 Win). Their standings brought them to the semi-finals where they were able to defeat Assabet Valley and win a spot in the final game of the tournament.
The girls faced their toughest competitor in the final round with the Charles River Blazers who have defeated the Flames in the regular season, and in game two of the state tournament. After an exhausting battle and four rounds of overtime, the Lady Flames came out on top to defeat the Blazers 3-2, and take the title State Champions.
