Former Selectman Jeffrey Yull is headed back to the board after beating another former selectman, Bill Smith, in Tuesday’s North Reading Town Election.
Yull, who previously served one term, won by a margin of 944-655.
There was concern earlier this year after two-term Selectman Sean Delaney announced he wasn’t running and no one took out papers until right before the deadline. In the hours leading up to the deadline, four people took out papers, but only Yull and Smith returned the papers with the required number of signatures.
The selectmen’s race was the only one with competing declared candidates on Tuesday.
There were no declared candidates for the Housing Authority, which meant there was a write-in campaign for that seat. The Town Clerk’s office needed to hand count the write-in ballots.
Write-in candidate Jim DeCola won with 148 votes. Town Clerk Barbara Stats said there were many other names written on ballots. The total of all the other write-ins was 109.
