Police Log: Another IRS Scam Reported

Monday, May 5

At 11:12 a.m., a North Reading resident called police after receiving two calls from someone claiming to be from the IRS. The caller said the resident needed to pay $10,000 in 30 minutes or the police would arrest her. The resident knew it was a scam, but wanted to tell police.

 

Tuesday, May 6

At 2:54 a.m., police received a call about two people walking barefoot on Chestnut Street. Police were unable to locate the people.

At 6:29 a.m., an employee at Winter Hill Bank said a man had been sleeping in the front entrance overnight for the past two weeks. The person would arrive around 1:30 a.m. and leave at 5:30 a.m. The bank employee asked police to speak to him and ask him to stop sleeping in the bank.

At 11:34 a.m., a Maple Road resident reported someone set up a tent by Eisenhaure Pond. It had been up over the winter, but she did not see anyone at the camp. Police dismantled the tent.

At 11:37 a.m., an employee at a Main Street business reported graffiti on a business.

At 12:01 pm., police arrested James E. Knight, 53, 5 Lakeside Boulevard, North Reading, and charged him with domestic assault and battery.

At 11:18 p.m., a Memory Lane resident reported four or five golf balls struck his home and damaged two windows.

 

Wednesday, May 7

At 8:09 a.m., a CVS employee reported a shoplifting occurred two days previously. The employee said the shoplifter was apprehended during another incident in Stoneham. North Reading Police plan to file charges in conjunction with Stoneham.

At 9:02 a.m., a resident reported finding hypodermic needles and empty glassine baggies on North Street. Police picked up the items.
