Starbucks hopes to open a North Reading location on Main Street at some point this summer, according to Attorney James Senior, who is representing the landlord of Atlantic Plaza.

The coffee company is planning to open where Sunrise Bagels is located. Senior went before the Community Planning Commission Tuesday night for approval of the site plan review.

"Basically, we are proposing to have the current building, which is the bagel shop, redesigned or remodeled to be a Starbucks," Senior said.

They also plan to expand the current seating area on the Main Street side of the building, and add a drive through window on the other side, Senior told Patch.

They'd like to get started as soon as possible and open sometime this summer, according to Senior.

Although the public hearing was closed Tuesday evening, Senior will meet with the CPC again on April 16 for a conditional approval, according to Community Planning Administrative Assistant Debbie Savarese.

Starbucks will have to give the town a bond that they will not get back until all of the items on the conditional approval are complete, Savarese said.

After the conditional approval is obtained from the CPC, the next step for Starbucks is to get permits from the Building Department.
