The department received a donation earlier this month from Alert Ambulance in
Attleboro of a 2003 Ford E350 dual rear wheel box style truck.
Police Chief Brian Clark said the ambulance will come in handy for various types of calls, especially when extra equipment is needed.
"It will already be there," he told selectmen earlier this month. "We can just grab the keys and go."
The vehicle has just over 200,000 miles on it and was donated to the department free of cost.
Board of Selectmen Chair Robert Kimball said the town should look into a program that will utilize old Norton Fire Dept. ambulances for the police station before they are put to auction.
For now, however, Clark said he is happy to receive the donation.
"I guess the bottom line is its free and I think we can
utilize it with very little money to put into it," he said.
