5 Things You Need to Know Today, Nov. 13

Today is Tuesday, Nov. 13. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. The public libraries and city offices in Peabody are open again today for regular hours and trash pickup resumes as well, but is delayed by one day in each area. Friday's collection will be on Saturday.
  2. The Peabody School Committee meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. for its regular session in the gymnasium at the Kiley School. One of the items slated for discussion tonight is reorganizing some spending to better address areas for improvement on the MCAS.
  3. Job fair: Over at the the North Shore Career Center of Lynn tomorrow, there will be a "Hire Heroes Reverse Job Fair" from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Contact Laurie Glynn for more information at lglynn@detma.org. The center is located at 181 Union St. in Lynn.
  4. Over in Beverly, the staff at the River House celebrate the reopening of the men's shelter and support from the community with a special breakfast tomorrow and some special guests who will talk about their journey back from homelessness. The River House, which is run by North Shore Community Action Programs, will also be honoring Peabody native Sen. Fred Berry along with other local partners for their staunch support. The free event is 7:30-9 a.m. at the Italian Community Center, 302 Rantoul St., Beverly. Reservations are requested. RSVP to 978-921-1304 or anne@riverhousebeverly.
  5. Poinsettias for sale: The Friends of the Peabody Institute Libraries are sponsoring a Holiday Poinsettia Sale. Plants are available in two sizes with either red or white flowers, with prices ranging from $10-$20. Orders must be prepaid and received at the Main Library by Nov. 30; plants may be picked up at the Main Library at 82 Main St. beginning Dec. 4. Order forms are available at all three library branches and online. All proceeds benefit library programs. For more information call the library at 978-531-0100.
