Friends and family said goodbye to Sam Berns one last time Tuesday morning during a private funeral held at Temple Israel in Sharon.

Berns, 17, died after a lifelong battle with the rapid aging disease known as progeria Friday evening.

Support and love for the Berns was evident early in the morning as cars quickly filling up the temple's parking lot filling and taking spots on Pond Street in Sharon where the temple is located.

About half of the students at Foxboro High School were estimated to be in attendance. Students, teachers, and staff were transported by busses provided by the high school.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, whose friendship with Berns helped raise $1.18 million for progeria research, also attended the funeral.

The funeral started at approximately 10:30 a.m. before ending around noon.

Remembrances may be made to The Progeria Research Foundation, P.O. Box 3453, Peabody, MA  01961-3453,  www.progeriaresearch.org.
