Man Robbed By Wrench-Wielding Mugger at Mobile Home Park

The following are excerpts from reports in the Peabody Police Department press log from Feb. 24-25.

Sunday, Feb. 24

  • 4:53 p.m. An officer was flagged by a man on Washington Street who said another motorist was throwing objects at his car. The officer said there was no visible damage to the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was described as a blue Ford Focus and was last seen at the corner of Oak and Foster streets.
  • 7:07 p.m. A caller on Lowell Street reported kids were throwing snowballs at cars.
  • 8:10 p.m. The city declared a snow emergency parking ban.
  • 10:23 p.m. A caller reported a person was up on the roof of Macy's. An officer checked the area and said the person wasn't a threat on the roof.

Monday, Feb. 25

  • 1:40 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle was doing donuts in the street at the corner of Perkins Street and Ellsworth Road. An officer gave a verbal warning to the driver.
  • 7:20 a.m. Police switched off all the blue lights across the city to signal the end of the parking ban.
  • 11:18 a.m. Report of a wire down on Winona Street. A section of the street leading up to Route 1 was closed to traffic while PMLP made repairs.
  • 11:28 a.m. A caller at Woodbridge Assisted Living reported multiple larcenies occurred over the weekend. Police said there were three separate incidents. No further details were given.
  • 11:32 a.m. Erik M. Newton, 44, of 16 County St., Peabody, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Boston District Court, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Washington Street and Allens Lane.
  • 1:46 p.m. A 26-year-old Peabody woman was transported to Salem Hospital after a two-car accident on Washington Street. Both vehicles were towed.
  • 2:04 p.m. A caller reported there was a fist fight going on in the parking lot at the Lowe Mart Plaza. Officers responded to the scene, but said there were no problems at the time.
  • 2:16 p.m. BMW reported the company received an alert that someone activated the emergency button in one of its vehicles. An officer said it was just a customer with small children at the BMW service center on Centennial Drive. The kids in the car had activated the button.
  • 2:52 p.m. A man reported he was assaulted and robbed by a wrench-wielding mugger at a mobile home park at 286 Newbury St. He said his wallet was stolen and described two suspects, both white males -- one brown-haired in a Bruins hat, the other blonde. He said they fled the scene in a blue Toyota Scion. After speaking with the man, an officer confirmed he was the victim of an armed robbery with a wrench. Police drove the man back to his residence on Chase in Danvers.
  • 9:37 p.m. Police said a Littles Lane resident reported a stolen car. The vehicle was allegedly stolen by the resident's brother and another person. It was eventually located in Lynn by Lynn police.
